Talking Points about Trump
Challenge 6: the Electoral College
First, I want to acknowledge some of the late-submission comments we got about Challenge 3: Socialism.
Regarding socialism, I lived in England for three years under Harold Wilson's socialistic nightmare. Their aim wasn't to bring the poor people up to the level of the small middle class but to make everyone except those in power equally poor. They took the large corporations, including the train, bus, and telephone companies away from their owners and tried to make everyone dependent on the government. They limited the amount of money people could make in a year or take out of the country when they were on a trip. "Cradle to Grave" care is what they touted. That's why my ex-husband and my son-in-law left the country and came to the U.S. There's no way in hell I want to live under socialism again, and right now we have a communist dictatorship in office. Get rid of political opponents by putting them in jail or barring them from being on the ballot. No, thanks! Who are the people interfering in the elections and destroying democracy now?
Let’s talk about Democratic Socialism, not the propaganda perpetrated by the right.
The US isn’t in danger of becoming socialistic but autocratic! And the programs radical conservatives call “socialism” is what our father’s father’s generation called “for the social good.”
As usual, thank you to everyone who submitted responses to Challenge 5: Trump and the 14th Amendment. As some rightly pointed out, the 14th Amendment is “merely one reason” why Trump should or shouldn’t be allowed to run for president in 2024. So here are the best responses we’ve received so far about why Trump should or shouldn’t be eliminated from running for president in 2024:
Five reasons why Trump should be eliminated from running for president in 2024
Section 3 of the 14th Amendment disqualifies Trump because he betrayed his oath and led an insurrection against America.
Being under indictment for ninety-one felonies should disqualify Trump from running.
The evidence against Trump includes treason with regards to the classified documents and missing Russian intelligence binder. No one under investigation for treason should be allowed to run for president.
Trump violated 5 US Code Section 3110 permanent federal statue by hiring his children to work in his administration.
Trump’s businesses—which he did not put in trust like all his predecessors—received millions of dollars from foreign states and entities while in office in disregard of the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause.
Five reasons why Trump should not be eliminated from running for president in 2024
Trump has never been convicted of any crime, not even during his two impeachments.
Trump may be “guilty” on social media but as an American citizen he’s innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Even if Trump gets convicted of multiple felonies, that wouldn’t disqualify him from running or serving as president.
Trump meets all the constitutional requirements to be president: he’s over age 35, he was born in the USA, and he hasn’t pledged his allegiance to any foreign nation.
The people should have a chance to have their voice heard, and elections should be decided at the ballot box.
